Coach Matt

Tamarack Alpine U10/U12 North Series Head Coach

YEAR STARTED COACHING AT MWSC: 2014

A fourth-generation Montanan, Matt grew up in the Missoula and Bitterroot Valley area before moving to Idaho on a ski racing scholarship at the College of Idaho. After earning a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with minors in coaching and psychology—and falling in love with an Idaho girl—he began coaching with the Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation.

A season as an assistant coach at the College of Idaho was followed by FIS coaching roles throughout the Intermountain and Northern divisions. In 2009, Matt moved to McCall and later helped guide the transition from MSRT to MWSC, serving as MWSC’s program director from 2014 to 2018.

From 2019 to 2022, Matt coached Mount Spokane Race Team’s FIS program and helped develop the Silver Mountain Alpine Race Team. After his wife graduated from physician assistant school, the family returned to the McCall area—the place they call home. Matt now lives in Donnelly with his wife and their two daughters.

Sharing skiing with others is Matt’s favorite part of life, guided by a simple belief: there’s never a bad day with skis on your feet!
