Mighty Mites
The McCall Winter Sports Club’s Mighty Mites/U8 Alpine Ski Program is designed for young skiers aged 6, 7, and occasionally 8. While we encourage all U8 beginners to have some prior experience through ski school lessons, it is not a mandatory requirement. This program offers an all-mountain experience, combining free skiing, drills, and brush work. We focus on instilling the fundamentals of skiing in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment. Welcome to our MIGHTY MITES team!
Participants can choose to ski one or two weekends at Brundage Mountain or Tamarack Resort, in addition to after-school sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays at Little Ski Hill.
Our coaches will organize the team into smaller groups, allowing for tailored developmental training suited to each skier's pace. The USSA Skills Quest (phase 2) training program serves as a framework for their growth.
Mighty Mites will have the chance to participate in 3-4 local races, including the Soda Pop Race Series held on Friday nights at LSH. Competing in these races is not mandatory. Coaches will assist in selecting the most suitable events for each athlete based on their individual development.
The program kicks off with the Holiday Camp from December 28-30, 2026, at the athlete’s primary mountain (Brundage Mountain or Tamarack Resort).
Athletes will ski with the team on Saturdays and/or Sundays at Brundage or Tamarack Resort, starting at 9:30 AM and wrapping up in the afternoon, depending on the training plan (usually around 12:30 PM).
While U8 athletes are not required to race, we believe that competition fosters the growth of the "whole athlete." They will have the option to join the Soda Pop Race Series and other local "friendly" races.
To qualify as U8 athletes, individuals must be under 8 years old as of January 1, 2026, and at least 6 years old. Notably, 5-year-olds enrolled in Kindergarten may join with a coach's recommendation.
A Season Pass for the athlete's primary mountain is necessary, along with an LSH pass if attending weekday practices.
Athletes should have all-mountain skis, poles, boots, and a hard-sided helmet. They should be capable of carrying, putting on, and taking off their equipment independently, as well as safely loading, unloading, and riding the chairlift.
Skiing with poles is also required.
Is it required that my child be able to ride the chair lift on their own?
Yes. It is an entry requirement of the Mighty Mite program that an athlete can load, ride, and unload the chair independently. We cannot guarantee an adult will always be on the chair with your athlete. We review chairlift safety with athletes every morning before we head to the chair. Our protocol is the bar goes down as soon as we load the lift and does not get lifted until our feet are over the ramp. We teach the kids how to ask the lifty to slow the lift down and we can also ask lifties to put the bar down for the kids as they load. If you do not want your child riding without an adult you will need to ride with them.
Why are U8 training days only 3 hours long?
Coaches have found that 3-hours on the snow is the most productive; keeping progression, fun and safety in mind. Three-hour training sessions on weekend days and 2-hour sessions on weekdays enable a positive learning pace with favorable long-term results. The US Ski Team has spent a lot of time and money into this training progression.
What can I work on with my child outside of team training?
At this stage, the best thing to do is take some laps with your child(ren) and let them have fun. They get a lot of coaching input during training. It’s a lot to think about. In skiing, like most sports, we are working towards unconscious competence, doing the right things without thinking. Athletes are thinking a lot during training as they are getting feedback, digesting, and applying it. They need time to turn the brain off and let it all come together. Fun laps are productive because skiing is fun!

SKI & SNOWBOARD DEVELOPMENT (DEVO)
The McCall Winter Sports Clubs Development program, affectionately referred to as "Devo," caters to skiers and riders aged 8-17 who are eager to build a strong foundation in various skiing and riding disciplines. This includes honing mental preparedness, undertaking physical training, and refining on-snow techniques and tactics. Our mission is to nurture growth, education, and maturity within a lively, team-oriented environment.
The program kicks off with a Holiday Camp from December 27-30, 2026, at the athletes' primary mountain—either Brundage Mountain or Tamarack Resort.
Athletes will hit the slopes with their team every Friday evening at LSH, and on their chosen day—Saturday or Sunday—at their primary hill from January through March.
Training sessions, based on the coaches' daily plan, typically start at 9:15 am and conclude at 2:30 pm.
While Devo athletes are not obligated to participate in races, we advocate for competition as a vital aspect of comprehensive athlete development. Athletes will have the opportunity to take part in the Soda Pop Race Series and other local "friendly" competitions.
A Season Pass for the athlete's primary mountain and an LSH pass are required for those planning to attend Friday practices.
Equipment requirements include all-mountain skis, poles, boots, and a helmet. Athletes should be able to independently carry, put on, and remove their equipment, comfortably navigate intermediate terrain, and safely load, unload, and ride the chair lift.
Days: Friday and Saturday OR Sunday
Price: $1,900.

Participants are encouraged to join events like the Soda Pop Race, Tam Jam, and the Chris Bodily Memorial 4-Way.

Race Track
MWSC is convinced that the skills and techniques gained through alpine race training result in the most exceptional skiers on the mountain.
MWSC conducts weekend training sessions at both Brundage Mountain Resort and Tamarack Resort. Athletes enrolled in U8 (Mighty Mites) and Development or 'Devo' programs can select their home (or 'primary') ski area. In contrast, athletes pursuing a more competitive path will train at both Brundage and Tamarack on weekends and at Little Ski Hill during the week.
MWSC offers training progressions tailored to age and ability, aligning with US Ski & Snowboard's Alpine Training Systems while nurturing the athlete's aspirations for competition and mastery in various race disciplines, including Slalom (SL), Giant Slalom (GS), Super G (SG), Downhill (DH), and Parallel. Whether the goal is the Olympics or Saturday night lights at Little Ski Hill, MWSC's programming and coaching create an environment that makes progression both challenging and enjoyable, ensuring that each athlete reaches their full potential.
Unsure if Alpine Race or Devo Advanced is the right fit? Opt for Devo Advanced if your U10-U16 athlete seeks part-time race training every weekend at a single ski area. Here, fundamental racing tactics are learned and applied in the Soda Pop Race Series at Little Ski Hill as well as other local and regional "friendly races."
On the other hand, consider the Alpine Race Teams if your U10-U16 athlete aims for a higher level of competition within the US Ski and Snowboard's Intermountain Division. Training entails 3-5 days a week in preparation for IMD races.
NOTE: All Alpine Race Teams will train at all three of our home ski areas.
Alpine Race
Alpine Race Teams offer a rigorous ski racing training and competition program for athletes aiming to elevate their ski racing skills. Racers in the U10-U16 categories will engage in weekend gate training sessions, complemented by all-mountain free skiing that incorporates various drills.
Training venues such as Brundage, Tamarack, and Little Ski Hill are selected based on the coaches’ judgment and the schedule of forthcoming U.S. Ski & Snowboard events. It is essential for athletes to possess season passes for all three resorts.
Alpine Racers will be competing in the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Intermountain Division (IMD) races. Racers in the U10-U12 categories are expected to take part in at least one North Series qualifier. U14 and U16 Racers will participate in the IMD-wide competitions. It is mandatory for all Alpine Racers to obtain a 2026-2027 U.S. Ski & Snowboard alpine competitor license. The program kicks off with a Holiday Camp from December 21-23 (open to all participants but hosted at Brundage) and continues from December 27-30, 2026, at the athlete's primary mountain (Brundage Mountain or Tamarack Resort).

FREERIDE/FREESTYLE COMP TEAM
The Freeride/Freestyle Comp Team is designed for skiers aged 10-17 who aspire to participate in big mountain, slopestyle, and/or park competitions.
Each day, and in every corner of the mountain—whether on steeps, powder, crud, trees, groomed runs, or in the park—discipline, creativity, drive, and judgment are essential components of the program. Athletes will cultivate these qualities for success through the technical development of line choice, style, balance, air, and fluidity.
These skills will then be applied in the competitive landscape. The team trains on weekends at Tamarack Resort and Brundage Mountain, and on Wednesdays and Fridays at Little Ski Hill during the week. Athletes are also expected to travel to various ski areas to prepare for and compete in USASA & IFSA events.
The program kicks off with a Holiday Camp from December 21-23 and 27-30, 2026. For the latest mountain practice updates, please check the TeamSnap app.

While Brundage Mountain serves as the team's home base, participants can anticipate traveling to various ski areas and backcountry locations depending on weather and snow conditions. Athletes may also compete in local competitions based on coaches' recommendations and individual interests. Participation requires a shovel, beacon, and probe, as well as an appropriate touring setup for uphill travel.
