Tips to stay safe out there!

Safety Wisdom #1!

Finally we are on the snow! If you haven’t already had a chance to get up and enjoy some turns yet just know you will soon be out on the snow training, Holiday Camps are right around the corner. The Skier Responsibility Code was developed to help keep Skiers and Riders safe. Let’s do our part! As we start our season we may need to gain some knowledge about or remind ourselves of the Skier Responsibility Code. Remember YOU are the SKIER in the Skier Responsibility Code! Let’s touch on the first two lessons in the Code.

  • Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.

This means ski within your ability. There will be times in training when you will be able to push yourself, these will be under your coaches direction and care.

  • People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.

This is especially important when you are coming into lift lines and the lift corral. Do not try and duck and weave through people to get to the front of the line. Wait for your team members in a designated spot near the lift corral and then move into the lift line together.

We must remember that not taking the Skier Responsibility Code seriously could increase our chances of an incident that may end our season. Nobody wants that! We want to have fun skiing in a safe environment all Winter long!
