Last weekend the 4th of March McCall Winter Sports Club produced the Hidden Valley Hoedown at Brundage Mountain. The competition was held in the Upper Hidden Valley area of Brundage and utilized the Terminator run as the venue. The Hoedown was an International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association sanctioned event in our Junior Intermountain Division. The conditions were incredible for a competition of this style with manageable amounts of fresh snow throughout the week creating a very soft and forgiving snow surface. Plenty of soft snow for hucking with confidence! 

The competition consisted of two runs and a combined score. Competition day gave us good visibility, cold temps and a touch of fresh snow. Athletes travelled from Washington, Oregon and Utah as well as Idaho. MWSC had 16 athletes that entered the competition as well as a handful of local independent athletes.

It snowed 2 plus feet a few days before the event and Brundage patrol were able to close the venue off to keep the snow and landings pristine. The diving board was closed off for U12 and open for the older more experienced athletes. It's a short venue with a lot of different airs, spines and a few big cliffs.

We as a team train at brundage a few times a season and it helps to ski the venue weeks before competing on it. Having been able to hit the biggest feature of the "diving board" it helps to boost confidence and the coaches can help athletes pick lines that they all have skied and can do successfully. 

Luke Bruce was one of the few 12-14 boys to hit and stick the diving board while throwing a 360 at the bottom to put the icing on the cake. 

It was a clean sweep for the MWSC U12 ladies. First time competitor Svea Eitel took the win.

Clyde Rydalch walked away with the Mayor of Non Stomp Town Award and announcers favorite trick of the day for throwing a huge screamin' semen off the diving board. He went at least 45 ft!”
