Last weekend, February 24th and 25th, the Freeride Team travelled to Bogus Basin for the Michael B Young Memorial IFSA Junior Region 2* Competition. The competition was a two day event and had fantastic weather for both days. MWSC came away with some great results and some goggle tans.

Here is a recap from Coach Kerry:

The event went awesome with tears and conquering fears. The fresh snow helped out a ton too, 7 inches of wind blew in the snow and softened the south facing aspect of the "face" at Bogus basin. Both comp days there was sun and high spirits. A total of 66 competitors from all Squaw valley, Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, SnowBasin, Park city, Snowbird, and Solitude.

The venue was about 800 vertical feet with about an average slope angle of 34 degrees. It was definitely steep and deep during the inspection runs, but would consolidate quickly by the competitors "inspecting"  the venue. It held up and skied great both days. Only one big cliff was closed as it had a blind landing and multiple rocks in the landing as well.

There were two starts, a lower and upper entrance onto the venue. A ton of features from 5 foot cliffs to 20 ft cliffs.

Standout performers was Alex Tyree who was 4th in the male U12 category going into the second run but then kicked a ski off upon landing a big air. Scoutt Weiseth took the U12 win for laying down two fast and fluid runs and Hayley Bruce took 2nd. Kash Teffeteller skied away with a 6th place finish in the U12. Kai Tennyson and Lance Dawson both fell the first day going huge but then both skied very well on day 2.

Other local IFSA independent competitors: Steel Messenger won the 12-14 snowboard male. In the ski female 12-14 Lyric Albright 3rd and Windsor Albright 5th.

MWSC: In the 12-14 male ski category Luke Bruce ended up 5th and Chase Dawson took the win by linking two great runs together by hitting multiple airs while showcasing his great skiing technique. In the 15-18 ski male Gavin Yallaly ended up 17th and Dominic Colafranceschi 11th.

This coming weekend, March 4th, McCall Winter Sports Club is producing our next IFSA Junior Region 2* event. This is an IFSA sanctioned event as part of the Intermountain Division. The Hidden Valley Hoedown is in it’s 6th year and it looks like the conditions are going to be soft and forgiving with small amounts of fresh snow this week paired with cool  temperatures.

The competition will take place at Brundage Mountain and consist of two runs through the Terminator Zone of Upper Hidden. This area has a steep, narrow and technical entrance with different features, hits and cliffs on the way down to the finish line. Competitors are judged on Line, Control, Fluidity, Technique and Style.

Spectators are welcome, access to the finish (best place to spectate) is via the goat trail into Hidden Valley. Follow all the way to the end!

Competition starts at 10:30am.

Come and support our Freeride athletes at their second hometown event this season. Cheering loudly is encouraged and accepted whole heartedly as a form of support!!
