Three “home” ski areas will boost development in the sport for local athletes and the community.

Earlier this week McCall Winter Sports Club(MWSC) and Tamarack Resort entered into a multi-year agreement naming MWSC the exclusive provider of youth alpine ski and snowboard seasonal programs at Tamarack Resort.

“The idea to build one club for all youth skiers and riders in Idaho’s west-central mountain region has been a collection of conversations between MWSC and Tamarack Ski Team for as long as my 4-year tenure with the club,” says Chris Costa, MWSC Executive Director.  MWSC’s 2022/2023 winter season will commence the realization of that idea by uniting Brundage Mountain, Little Ski Hill, and now Tamarack Resort.

Our three-mountain partnership highlights a shared desire to cultivate progression for the sport in our small-but-mighty community and lifelong.

MWSC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide a personalized snow sports experience for each athlete in a supportive environment where they can build character, develop confidence, and challenge themselves to reach their highest potential. MWSC values athletic progression at every age and level of development.

In 1941 the Mighty Mites youth ski racing group was formed at Little Ski Hill. Twenty years later the local ski team added Brundage Mountain as a home place for training and competition. This coming season, Mighty Mite skiers, Devo skiers and riders, alpine racers, and big mountain athletes will have three mountains to call home.  Although athletes will choose a "primary" ski area when registering, there will be more opportunities for cross-valley training. “The terrain options our athletes will have going forward are among the best in the country now,” says Erik Fisher, MWSC Program Director and former ski racer on the US National Team who was sponsored by Tamarack Resort when he made his second Olympic team in 2014.

MWSC has experienced steady growth over the last few years and plans to provide opportunities for more than 200 athletes, 6-18 years of age, this coming season.  In addition, MWSC believes this new partnership with Tamarack Resort will enable the club to be a better partner to Brundage Mountain Resort and Little Ski Hill and bring more value to that partnership and the community served. “The ski industry is small, and I believe the more we can work together and maximize resources the better off the program will be,” says Fisher.

Because of the ongoing support from Little Ski Hill and Brundage Mountain Resort MWSC is where we are today with a bright future.

“It is really exciting to see the growth of MWSC and all the winter sports athletes over the past few years,” said Ken Rider, GM of Brundage. “Adding Tamarack as an additional ski partner makes sense and will continue to develop MWSC athletes into lifelong enthusiasts of winter sports and hopefully bring back some of that ‘ski town USA’ magic to Idaho’s west-central mountains.”

Local USSA alpine ski races, IFSA big mountain competitions, and USASA freeride competitions are being planned for each ski area.  In addition to these qualifying events for regional and national championships, MWSC will continue to host non-sanctioned, fun races and comps; including the 4th annual Soda Pop Race Series at Little Ski Hill.  New this year will be lights on Race Run; enabling more after-school and after-dark training and competition.

“We are pleased to see the enthusiasm that McCall Winter Sports Club has towards extending its offerings to Tamarack Resort and look forward to their continued investment in our athletes and the Tamarack community,” wrote Tamarack Ski Team’s board of directors in a letter to MWSC.
