Stirring Up Winter Stoke!

On Saturday, August 28th we'll be getting together with athletes, coaches, family and friends of MWSC for hiking, biking, disc golf, a scavenger hunt, BBQ and outdoor ski film. McCall Winter Sports Club hopes you'll RSVP and join for this free event at Brundage Mountain.

MWSC Get-Together

Beneath August's Sturgeon Moon

Beneath the August Sturgeon Moon

Saturday, August 28th at Brundage Mountain McCall Winter Sports Club(MWSC) is hosting a face-to-face social gathering to invite and welcome returning and new athletes, family and friends. The day's activities are designed to share and learn what MWSC is all about - skiing, competition, camaraderie and fun!

The MWSC Get-Together will begin at the ARC. The ARC is MWSC's clubhouse at Brundage Mountain Resort, originally named as the Alpine Racing Center. This is the winter meeting place for our youth ski teams; including the Mighty Mite, Devo, Big Mountain Freeski and Alpine Race teams. This is also where we'll meet (and greet) Saturday, 8/28, with Erik Fisher(Program Director), Chris Costa(Executive Director), Coaches, Board Members and Team Parent Advisors. The doors will open at 3:00pm and stay open through the evening.

Before the evening activities officially begin at 6:00pm we hope you'll check out our home mountain trails by bike, foot or chair lift.  If you look down you may find ripe huckleberries! And if you look up you'll see lake and mountain views from the top of the Blue Bird Chair Lift. Look closely either way as we'll have a scavenger hunt challenge with cool prizes for those who find the most items on the list!

At 6:00pm we'll reconvene back at the ARC with hungry appetites for food and winter stoke.  We'll kick off the tailgating party with burgers and dogs on the BBQ.  We'll provide the food; you bring your own drinks, camp chair and blanket!

Once the skies get dark enough we'll fire up the projector and sound for an exclusive showing of the Mitey Mite ski film.  This film has not been published for public viewing. Fortunately for us; past Mitey Mite ski racer and MWSC supporter, Norm Zachary, has rights to the film and a personal story to tell. This historic and funny B/W film will show on the big screen while Norm narrates the beginnings of McCall's ski culture, lifestyle, spirit and shenanigans.

Did you know that back in the day student-athlete initiation into the 4th grade included launching off the small ski jump at Little Ski Hill?  And if the young students of Lardo School didn't jump on their own, the older junior skiers on the Mitey Mite Team would give them a push despite their kicking and screaming. This is not how MWSC Coaches do it today:-)

The MWSC Get-Together will  end beneath the night's still-nearly-full moon. The Old Farmer's Almanac has named it the Sturgeon Moon. "Sturgeon" means the "stirrer," which is what this giant fish does when it is hungry! Moreover, MWSC will be stirring up excitement for the upcoming winter season as there is much to look forward to.

We hope you'll join McCall Winter Sports Club - even if only for a summer afternoon and evening beneath the sturgeon moon.

Please RSVP here.  The event is free for all with a suggested $10 donation for the BBQ! Email mccallwintersportsclub@gmail.com with questions!
